Girls of South Africa
There is a light
That shines
Deep inside their hearts
The struggles of life
Hasn’t made them bitter
In their eyes,
You see grace, as if God,
Is personally holding their hands
Letting them know, you too are loved
That he hasn’t forgotten his children
On the other side of the world
Even though they’ve lost so much
They remain touched with love
There still lives a radiance of spirit
That shines so brightly in their faces
No amount of darkness can ever extinguish
Such innocent beauty.

(I watched the Oprah special about the school she has built for the young girls in South Africa, and how can anyone be against something so beautiful and awe inspiring? There just seems to be a vast difference in the kids over there and some American kids. African kids seem to get it-intuitively they understand that they’re not entitled to anything, but have to work hard for it. Watching that piece, inspired this piece of poetry.)
