Billie Jean (musing)
The radio is playing at work and the familiar drum thumping of a song comes on and I am transfixed for a moment in time. My mind races back to that time when all was beautiful and HE ruled the world. The strains of Billie Jean by Michael Jackson fill the room http://www.mp3lyrics.org/m/michael-jackson/billie-jean and I'm 15 again and Michael is performing on Motown's 25th anniversay special. Everyone knows they're here to see Michael and when he takes the stage alone, hat in hand, sequined glove, highwater pants and the beat starts pumping. Lawdy! The crowd lose their collective freaking minds. I can still see this young black kid in the audience his face stunned at what he is seeing, Michael Jackson live and in control. I remember losing my freaking mind also and knowing that this guy was "IT" and what I was seeing was something special. The same way you know when you watched Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods or Jack Bauer in action. He was a special entertainer. He still is a special entertainer. My mom and brother didn't see what I saw in this guy who they thought was just too freaking weird and too girly (my mom's words). They couldn't see past the eccentricities he exhibited and let the magic of the his music and dancing mesmerize them. Well...maybe they were right...but...I still refuse to believe in anything but the entertainer I enjoyed as child.
