Unrequited Love
An inadvertent touch
Charged with electricity
Reveals her love no longer concealed
And now he knows feelings thought to be friendship
Through the years have deepened
She loves him like a lover loves her man
Always in the background and quick with a smile
She’s loved him ever since the day they met
A friend first she’s remained quiet out of respect
Loving a man who she couldn’t have
A heart full of love with no one to give
Now she wonders what if
She had left herself open
Told him that her heart always belonged to him
Would he have said the same or smiled in gratitude
Misunderstanding the intent of her words
And in that moment she would know
Friends they would always be
Long after all the lovers of the night have long been forgotten.

(I started writing this and then went off in a different direction just wondering what if you loved someone all your life and they never know how you felt about them. Your love lived in the imagination of your heart never to see the light of day.)
