Sanctuary of My Mind

Poetry and Prose will take you away, you'll be drifting between darkness and eternal moonlight...savage passion and reasonable love will sing their songs...flickers of happiness, embers of sadness...all you need to forget time is still ticking. (written by a reader)

Love & Pain

Pain that shakes you to your very core
Love then infiltrates your gates
Settles slowly until you are ready to accept
A gift, given of free will
Finds a way to mend a heart that swore
Never to love again
Mirrors of each other, love & pain
Side by side they are sometimes indistinguishable
Until one day you realize that your swagger has returned
The pain, no longer hurts.

Indifferent

Where have you gone
I’ve been searching for you
For what seems like forever
I believe that you are worth the wait
So impatience won’t cloud my judgement
Cause me to do something stupid
For you I will remain just as I am
A woman in search of her one true love
Until you come to me,
My heart will remain indifferent
To the charms of all other men
You will find my heart untouched
And open for only your love.

Long After

Long after my memory has faded
And I am unable to recollect
You were the love of my life
I have to believe that the power of love,
Inherently runs so deep that not even the ravages of time
Can erase a love as profoundly affecting as ours
Something so beautiful cannot be forgotten
Simply because we are no longer relevant
And the world has found new lovers to take our place
You will always be the light that shines in my eyes
The warmth that flows in my blood
The woman who captured my heart
After I had already given up
But always secretly hoping that love,
Would once again call my heart home
Long after my memory has faded
I will remember you even in fleeting thought
My mind will search every corner of my heart
To find what once was so beautiful.

For Everyday

For everyday that we live
For everyday we haven’t found love yet
Will be one less day to love you
One more day to wonder where you are
When you should be right here with me
For everyday that I breathe
You, I am unable to kiss
Is one more day my soul goes empty
When that day finally comes
I can open my arms
To welcome love into my heart
And everyday that will follow
Will be a day spent loving you
With all of my heart.

Espresso

Too early in the morning
To be looking this damn good
I haven’t even had my coffee yet
And yet, you’ve given me a shot of espresso
Should keep me going all damn day
If that ain’t enough
I’ll just come back for another look
This time you done gon add
Some of your sweet brown sugar to the mix
It’s all my heart can take with this sugar rush
Save some for later…cause I’ll be back for more
The things you can do to a man
And you ain’t even trying
Just imagine if you smiled my way-imagine that
Just imagine that...

(For some reason I was thinking of Harlem and the poets of that generation and wanted to write something in that flavor.)

Back to Love

Can we find our way back to love
What was once so good for both of us
Still has to have that fire
The flames of our passion
Must still burn bright
Something once so beautiful
So full of magic and promise
Couldn’t have just died
While we were busy with this thing called life
Can’t we find our way back to love
Somewhere in us must still exist
The little girl in you, the shy boy in me
Touch me once again
The way you did that very first day
Remind me once again why we fell in love
The road back to love can only lead to you
Let’s take that first step together
To find our way back to love.

Reflections

I see you now as you should see yourself
The reflection in my eyes
Is the mirror into your soul
Why don’t you know you are beautiful?
Your presence alone guarantees a smile
Until you believe that you are
The direct descendant of Kings and Queens
My words will mean nothing
Unless you believe in the gift of who you are.

Early Listening of John Legend

Heh,
Just wanted to give you a chance for an early listen of John Legend's new CD. It's streaming audio so you can't skip tracks, but it's definitely worth listening to the entire cd. Legend has done it again. Enjoy!!

To Touch

To touch me at this moment
Would be much too painful to bear
Everything in my heart
Would no longer be a secret
For you would see me as I am
An open window into my soul
Would be yours to look into
Be gentle, even in your quiet
I can be caused pain
Don’t take my love for granted
It hurts, when the one you love
Is callously dismissive of your feelings.

Pleasure

Her lips are moving but not a word I’m hearing
Her body is calling for some immediate loving
It’s a call filled with urgency
An immediate response is necessary
Who am I not to heed her plea
How could I resist not to pleasure her immensely
And it’s not that I subscribe to vanity
Or that I take her banshee calls of wild abandon
As affirmation of anything other
Than the girl is enjoying every stroke of my loving
Pleasure is the sweetest thing to give your lover
Without expecting anything in return
You worship the ground they walk on
To make them happy in a perfect world
Would be your sole occupation

I'm Already There

The miles between us are quickly receding
I’m already there as you’re waiting
You’re smiling cause you see me coming
Don’t listen to the loneliness in your heart
Hear the words of when we talk
Cause I’m already there
You’re shedding your tears in my arms
For all the happy days to come
I’m already there
Despair is merely a mirage
A bad dream that’s ending now
Open your eyes my love
I’m already there

Soul on Fire

My soul is on fire
Touch me now
You too,
Would become enflamed from my passion
Even a river of ice right now
Would simply be unable
To extinguish the flames burning at my core
I’m an eternal smoldering flame
Even the absence of air won’t stop me from breathing.

Beautiful and Naked

My eyes are closed mimicking sleep
But it’s you I see beautiful and naked
Dancing across my mind screen
I reach for you but you’re already there
Your body impaled against mine
Whispering words that make me blush
I feel the heat of my desire rising
Something deep inside is stirring
An animal caged in need of release
To wander the wildness of your jungle
Untamed, I taste the spoils of your sweet fruit
Found only in that place that opens for me
How is it I can never get enough
The more I come the more I want
Only for you will my desire not subside.

Beautiful Waters

From which beautiful waters did you emerge
Fully conscious of who you are
You were a woman before you were a child
Your innocence feeds the hunger
Of the eyes that watch you walk by
Drinking greedily from every girlish flirtation
Looking for an entrance to extract your sweetness
They all want to be, the first one to make you a woman
As if they would know how to touch your essence
Being saved for that someone special
From which beautiful waters did you emerge
One day I hope to swim in the depths of your waters
Touching bottom every single time
For that day I wait until you are ready to give yourself.

Summer Day

The sun basks in her warmth
Looking for shelter in her love
A good day is when they walk together
Enjoying all that life has to offer.

Empty Hands

My hands are empty until I hold you again
You are singularly beautiful
In your every thought and deed
You are the most beautiful woman
On the face of this earth
Knowing you love me
Fills me with emotions that are indescribable
I want to smell your hair again
Get lost in your smile again
Watch the raindrops fall on your face
Then kiss your lips so wet
As I lose myself in the madness of this consuming passion
Driving me to the edge of where we live
I see the fire and feel the flames
Searing through me but I feel no pain
Your love shelters me from it all.

True Spirit

The day is much too beautiful for any negative thoughts
Let the beauty of nature replenish your soul
Rest your head gently on my shoulder
Close your eyes and relax your mind
Let all your worry and strife fly away
Like the bird flying in the far off distance
Free to be just a bird and nothing else
Be who you are, a passionate being
Without any apologies for embracing your true spirit
Walk in a path of your own creation
Defy conventional wisdom to be an individual
A true spirit answers to no one
Except your God and conscience.

Naked Desire

What more can I say
You’re in my blood
I touch my skin, and
I feel you inside of me
Despite myself,
I am unable to outrun
That which burns for you
A penetrating desire which at times
Leaves me defenseless with naked desire

I Love You Just Because

To forget you would be impossible
The mere effort would require more strength than I have
I am too weak a person to expend so much energy
Knowing full well my efforts would be for naught
So I will love you just because
You’re the only woman I think of
No one else can fill your space
They dare not even try
For as long as I love you
You will always live in my heart
I love you just because
You are who you are
The woman who steals my breath every single time.

You

You move with an ease
Free of all worries
You inhabit the moment
When others merely exist in it
You own who you are
You are a woman who knows her place
Which is anywhere and everywhere she wants.

The Quiet

The quiet hasn’t dulled your memory
If anything, the silence makes your absence even more profound
Your scent lives in every corner of my house
Days spent without you now
Is merely an existence without truly living
Your voice I sometimes hear
I crave like mad to hear you say my name again
Your voice heavy with want
Now leaves me wanting for something
I never knew I needed
Now that I have felt what was once a mystery
Love revealed her face to me and it’s you
My body is malnourished for your touch
Only you can feed me what I most desire
One more night I would like to have
Knowing it would be our last
Every moment I would cherish
Every kiss would be savored
Every look, reflection of thought
Would serve as running conversation for me now
It can’t end like this
I refuse to believe something so deeply changing
Could just end for no good reason.

So Beautiful

When did you become this person
So beautiful it hurts
You live in this world
Where you can’t be touched
Loving you is all I want to do
I exist in your world at your whim
Easily disregarded and forgotten
Remembered again just by accident
And yet, you know who I am
So there’s always a chance
One day, love will be kind to me
When that day comes
I will be there to give you my heart.

New Short (The Anonymous Person)

The Anonymous Person is a new short about people who are seemingly forgotten because what they do isn't "sexy" and not world changing, but their existence serves a purpose. Without them, without you, without me, the whole thing would fall apart. Anyway, here it is...

New Short

A new short I wrote a few days ago about the scenario of waking up on a Sunday Morning with your man or woman and just enjoying each other's company-in every sense. Read on..

Sands of Time

I stand still in the moment
Allowing the world to revolve around me
Feeding on its energy
Creativity is inspired again
Time traveling through the beauty of time
I see things I’ve only read about
What must it have been like to have been a friend of Shakespeare?
Listen to the poetry of Lord Byron?
How could anyone not be inspired to come in contact with Martin?
And have read the prose of James Baldwin
To have broken bread with Gandhi
What must it have been like for J. D. Salinger
To write a little story in his mind and fifty years later
Still gaining fans for his Catcher in the Rye
Many inspire to dream great things
Few have been touched with the ability to touch the masses
It’s a humble man who knows that he’s only a vessel
Carrying the message of a higher power
But what must it be like to be truly touched by the hands of God?
